More a max question ?!

Hello everybody.

I am a not too experienced Vray user and have a question regarding max - I think. My question is as follows.....(hope you understand what I mean ).

I am trying to render a table that I designed for a folder. BUT - I wish to ONLY render out the table with its shadow. So I don´t want to have a "floor" or anything in the scene - except the table with its own diffuse shadow !!!! The idea is that I can place my rendering on a white background and finally the table will be printed on a white piece af paper - and still having the impression of it "standing" on the page ?!

DAMN - I don´t know if this is understandable to you...But I hope somebody has a way of rendering this....

Anyway. Thanx for a great forum and I must say that it´s a thrill to see all those fantastic renderings you people make....

Using the matte material option in vray material wrapper for the objects you don't want to render. Give those materials an alpha contribution of -1. Also make those object matte objects in the vray property option in your quad menu.

I have some success with just turn on Vray Ojbect properties' Matt Objects option with alpha contribution of -1. I didn't have to mess with my material setup at all.

yea, i prefer the object properties also.. especially since the right click Vray Properties thing is available.. ! it just depends on how you like to organize your scenes.

that doesn't leave the shadow on the floor, does it?

If you place an object over a box and use this box as a mate object, no shadow is projected over it. At least I couldn't do that

You need to tick the "Shadows" option and the "Affect alpha" option for the floor in the VRay matte properties.

You´re right LUPAZ - it doesn´t leave the shadow on the floor......

I´ll try VLADO´s suggestion and see if it helps...
