  • Installation...authorization...?

    Hi all,
I thought it was too good to be true.

I installed v-ray 1.09, then at the authorization panel I filled in the infos and copy/sent to chaosgroup.

Then I pressed authorize, to go into max.

Today I removed the vray files, and installed the latest beta instead.
I also got the authorization code, just today.

The problem is, I cannot access the authorization panel anymore.

If I select vray renderer in max, nothing shows up except the vray server address field, with the "save" button and some text.

How to access the authorization panel again?

    thank you

    regards,

    gio

Not sure how to solve your problem but you did know you can run both versions at once. Check the link,

I do not need both installed at the same time.

I am trying to re-istall v-ray, using the latest beta.

Either opening max, and selecting v-ray as renderer does not open the authorization panel.

Scavanging for infos on the vray site, and in the docs, I read about the licensing system, which seem to require the licensing server, even for a single computer.

Is this correct? Do I need to run the VRserver before opening Max?
Or that is for DR only?

Is the licensing server address panel in max (the only vray panel I can see) supposed to be filled in?

      thank you

yes, you need to run the VRServer, BEFORE you open max.

Yes, the server adress should be filled in, i belive it defaults to the loopback address (127.0.0.1), which works fine if the VRserver is running on the same machine as max.

          thank you czoog,

the server application tells me : "invalid license"

and how to blame it? since I did not actually fill in my authorization code into the author. panel, since it never came up again...

I believe I screw things up when I hit "authorize" the first time the panel pop up, instead of cancelling.

The authorization field was empty (I just copied the info to send chaos group to get the auth. code), and I think the damm thing thought it was an hack attempt.

I cannot believe how complicated this is. Sometime I wish for a doungle key...

I sent an email to chaos, they will tell me what to do....

          thank you again,

          regards,

          gio

It may help to clear things up if you take a look at the "Licensing system" section of the help index (which you can find below the beta download link). It explains what you need to do to get VRay up and running.

            Best regards,

thank you Vlado, I read the help file.

Again, the authorization panel did not pop up again, therefore I was unable to fill in the uthorization code you guys sent me.

Most likelyI had to hit cancel the first time the panel pop up, not "authorize". My bad.

I sent you the email with the data the VRLserver displayed, asking me to send it to you (the "license request").

I assume the authorization process happens twice, once for the renderer (with the pop up panel once you enter max) and another time when you try to start the server?

              Regards,

              gio

You need to do all the licensing in the VRLServer.exe file, there is no popup in max in the latest builds AFAIK.

Also, make sure you are reading the correct help file: the HTML version on the download page, not the old docs on the docs page.

Yea, that is good to know too...

So, when I saw the pop up panel, it must have been vray 1.09...

Damm...I asked authorization for 1.09 then installed 1.46something....

So, I need a new authorization code for the 1.46 beta I have installed now...Well, I did send that email, with the infos the server displayed, so hopefully the chaos guys will send me a new authorization code...

I am wondering, if I kept 1.09 and managed to authorized it with the code I already received, then I would have had to re-do it for 1.46?

You guys had to re-ask for the authorization code when you upgraded?

                    thank you,

                    regards,

                    gio

The licensing systems for 1.09 and 1.46 are completely different, so everyone upgrading will have to reauthorize.

If you got a popup there are probaly some 1.09 files still left in the max dirs.

yea, again, I installed 1.09, copy the info in the panel, send them to chaos, then I installed the 1.46 beta and tryed to use the 1.09 authorization code with it.

                        I feel stupid...

thank you for the help, and sorry for the mess...
