  • very slow rendering

    Hi All,

I know theres a lot of things I have to try to speed up my renderings, but a 1024x1024 render that I set off on friday hasnt finished yet on a dual Xeon 2.8 machine.

There are roughly 20 Xfrog trees/plants in the scene and a lot of furniture brought into viz from maya as fbx files. The model itself is a fair size and when rendering it sits on about 1.4gb memory usage.

Basically, before I set up the materials it rendered quick, now it doesnt with the only addition being some more xfrog trees and furniture as well as 5-6 vray lights in the entry.

In terms of settings, I think one difference may be that I unticked "check visibility distance"....could this be it? there are trees etc that are around the back of the building that arnt seen from the front.

if anyone else has had similar problems, could you share the solution? using 1.46.05

ive hidden all the trees and furniture and it still does the GI calculation very slowly. Im using the medium presets with 70 Hsubs...

the other thing Im trying now is processing the GI without glass and rendering over afterwards. will this work?

    *pulling hair out*

dont you hate it when you say to the client that you will have images ready for monday afternoon and the whole weekend wasnt enough time for 1 image

hmm im going to try rendering without the vray lights now

update: Turning off GI generate/receive for the trees, using the vray opacity map, turning off filtering for the leaf textures is speeding things up quite a bit for the trees anyway!
