  • is there a limit to faces/ xref models

having just received my XFrog CD collection of houseplans (Max format) I xrefed them (about 12 models) into my scene and hit render, but I get a string of errors and the render crashes. So I though it was an xref +vray prob. Then I tried it with 1/4 of the plants and it rendered ok, but the problem is that I need to have loads of plants in this scene, any ideas,

hmm, I had to rush my initial post as I spend 3 hrs yesterday evening all in vain and had to go straight at it today, What I did today was as follows: I merged 3 xfrog max files into my scene, made about 3 instances of each, did a test render and it rendered fine, didnt want to push the boat out too far so I resorted to using images on planes (for the plants that are far from the camera), so its a mixture of both 3d meshes and Planes for my plants, rendering is currently 2 hrs and counting with no errors messages. My gut feeling is that it doesnt like too many faces in the scene, anyways good luck with yours

The new builds don't seem to like heavy geometry, I'm rendering some Tree Storm trees (1 million poly's) I can render one at a time any more will cause a string of errors blank buckets even though the scene is within the memory limit.
On a side note nested Xref's seem to cause numerous problems, best to stick to one level if you need to use them.
