has anyone had any luck creating a nice stained glass effect?

We're working on a classic cathedral style church and we've created a material map for the stained glass, but we're not sure of the best route for the lighting and making it look realistic.

-the color from the glass needs to bounce around the scene
-the glass needs to look self illuminated
-volume light from the windows may look nice, but not necessary.

I'm using 1.09 if that matters....thanks for any help!

hi and welcome to the forum dude ...

Just use a vray Mat ... the stained glass image in the Diffuse ......switch on Affect shadows and have your refraction to a grey i guess ...that should do it ...

for some reason that didn't work as good as i wanted.

out of curiousity, if i upgraded to the latest build and use the vray light material so that the stained glass material could generate the light would that work? or would it be super slow?

Not a good idea to do the light thing.

What I would do is to make the diffuse black and use the map in the refraction map. If that does not work, try using it in the fog map, with refract on black (or near black).
