  • Cleaning up material library

I have merged a series of files together, and now have duplicate names for materials. Sometimes, I have 5 instances of a material with the same name in the scene.

I remember seeing a script about this once. Is there a script or a tool that can help me combine all similar-named materials with just one of them?

      No luck finding it.

Anyone have a link? The BlurBeta site doesn't seem to have a link to the files anymore.

Shouldn't there be something integrated into Max by now?

You can get it at www.scriptspot.com but only for Max 4.

i once wrote a small script just to clean mateditor from normal to Vray materials....

You can use that if you want, as is , or change some lines to get what you want...

BTW, without comparison routine , max has no way to define if a material is duplicated in the scene..

            my script here .

Did you try the Max 4 one? It should work, scripts are not like plugins, for the most part they will work with any newer version.
