    Hello
I'm trying to make the move to max7 + vray 1.46.09...
When i used to work on the 1.09.03n i did all my animation and stills with irr maps computed at half of the size of the final image (-3,-1 settengs)
Now I would like to take adv of lighmap and quasi-monte Carlo, can some of you guys give me a good start on how you use it?
meaning lighmap on first bounce or second? + settings.
I know i can use all kind of combos but i want your expiriance on which is the fastest quality solution?
    Don't spare the details...

You dont have to double post.

Your workflow doesnt change too much. Irr map first is still the fastest for the 1st bounce. Lightmap is a very fast way to get the second bounces.

Lightmaps can be calculated for the entire scene in 1 pass, and it is very fast. just use the flytrough setting when rendering.

As long as nothing in your scene is moving, (except camera) the lightmap will calculate for the entire scene. Just click the lightmap Mode: Fly-through. It will calculate a blurred lightmap. Then render. Try is with a fake scene, a teapot of something.

        Use Irr. Map Mode:Multiframe Incremental.

Render your Irr Map, and Lightmap first using low AA settings, (adaptive -4,-4) Check the "Dont render final image" in the global dropdown. Make sure your saving your irr map, and lightmap.

Change the frame settings to render every 10th frame or so, because the Irr map samples stay in the scene, with each new frame it add more samples to the scene as needed.

Render your scene. This will do all the calculations for the GI. and save them.

If you have autosave, and switch to map, all you need to do know is uncheck "dont render final image", and increase your aa settings to the correct final settings, and render.

hope its helpful, hope i make sense.
