1.45 is slower then 1.09 when you use the same settings....
infact... when you load 1.09 scene in 1.45 they render slower....
but when you make the settings new... and materials like 1.45
it is faster....

I use 1.09 for production and have been testing 1.46.10. I've found 1.46 to be significantly faster as well. I loaded a scene created in 1.09, tweaked the settings as suggested in other posts and it works great. The lighting looked the same and the GI IR map/QM was faster to. I use VIZ 4 and haven't tested DR yet.

I've found you can reduce the samples in your glossies by 25% to 50% and get similar quality. The other setting that makes a big difference is the QMC sampler. I lowered it to 8. That's really all there is. I didn't change the GI settings much. For AA I use the adaptive subdivision, I can't seem to get the adaptive QMC to work good.
I don't recall the thread off hand mabye someone else can.
DR works great in 1.09 (for me).

What part is slower for you GI calc or rendering? Are you doing interiors? I do frestanding furniture without environments with glossy reflections, Vray lights and low GI settings. What is your scene like?
What is everyone elses experience?

If you use the default settings, 1.46 will likely be slower than 1.09 - it traces more rays by default. This was made to ensure that you can get a good image with only few parameter tweaks. On average, the default settings of 1.46 trace about twice as many GI rays than the default settings in 1.09. However, you can always tweak things to get a similar performance. If you have any doubts - post a scene and we'll discuss it here.
