  • Light tut or something

OK, before anyone goes off into a rant or something, like the last time I asked a question--> I DID A SEARCH!!<--
(actually re-read my last post and you guys came up with a terrific idea about common questions sticky!)

Here's another common newb question ( oh no )

I read the manual, or post entries that serve as one, but its a little sketchy at best. Im having trouble with the vray lights. Im still stuck on Max's light set up and its settings. Vray's lights seem to have shadows and other options missing from them or Im just not getting it. ( i know its the latter)

Can someone direct me to some tuts or something that can help me out a little?
Please dont send me to the manual, that stuff is just confusing and I now know everything there is to know about caustics and the inner working of nucleur fusion.
I just want to know if there's an actual detailed manual or something out there for vray?

    T.I.A.

ps. I really did search but u type in "lights" and six thousand post pop up!.

Just in case you have been reading the old downloadable manual, there is a much more up to date HTML manual available from the page where you download the latest beta versions. Try this link after you have logged in to your account:

Let me know if this helps.

      Thanks Egz!

Yes i downloaded the old one not even noticing the newer version. The latest version is quite better.

But can I ask another question?

With vray light, how do i adjust the shadow parms and other options normally associated with Max lights?

you really cant. they aren't shadow maps so theres none of that to tweak. Its an area light so it casts physically correct area shadows. Nothing to fake, which makes them simpler to setup.

If you want tweekable shadows use the standard max lights with vray shadows.
