  • AutoCAD Modeling

My general workflow is to create the model in AutoCAD then import into Max with Vray.

Would a model created in AutoCAD vs created in Max with all other things being equal give the same results?

    Just curious,

    Thanks

in theory it should not make a difference. if you bring in solids and the normals are facing the correct way and there are no holes etc. in practice those things are hard to avoid sometimes in autocad modeling.

I typically use solids for walls and then use a subtractions to create an opening - windows and doors - is that what you are referring to as holes? Does that have a negative impact on the results?

Would it be cleaner to create an opening out of four separate solids - for example, create the first section of wall - 10' high. Then I come to an opening with a 5' opening - so a solid would be under the window to 2' for the sill, then the 5' opening and then the 3' solid header above the window and then another solid on the other side of the opening that's 10' to continue on as the wall?

      Thanks for the clarification

I do the later, but thats to make it quicker when changing things later. Problem with that is the combination with vray edgetex. Never had any normal issues working with solids. The models do seem heavier than max models. But being able to relink the dwg and keep all the material assignments is great.
