  • Combining textures for displacement

    Hi everyone,

I'm trying to get a transition done from sand to rubble. Blended the different materials with vertex paint in a Vray blends material alright, but when they were combined displacement isn't working anymore for each material; not in the material slots nor with the modifier.
since displacement with transition works fine with the modifier with a simple grey material I'm guessing it's either the blend material that breaks it or the different mapping channels?
    What's the proper procedure this?
    Thanks!

Can you show me some examples just to make sure I understand the problem?

    Best regards,

      It works today...strange...

I explain again, but I guess its senseless since its working:
To make it simple: I have two texture sets with different mapping coordinates (2 mapping channels) for sand and rubble. The materials blend fine but when I put the map for the displacement (composite) into the displacement modifier, I didnt get any displacement at all.

I dont quite get the vraydisplacement modifier texture channel input, since all three maps have different mapping channels. so setting it to 1 helped, I guess.
      sorry to bother you.

but I would like to report that interactive rendering is difficult to work with whenit comes to displacement. sometimes it doesnt seem to react, sometimes the displacement becomes strange or other objects disappear. reverting to a normal rendering and then back to the interactive one helps... maybe thats why I couldnt figure it out yesterday, because the render wouldnt update properly...
I am using nightly 3.57.01...if you are interested in the version, how can I find out the exact build?

Do you use 2D Displacement? It only works with one channel.
        Software:
        Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1
        3ds Max 2016 SP4
        V-Ray Adv 3.60.04

        Hardware:
        Intel Core i7-4930K @ 3.40 GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 (4096MB RAM)
        64GB RAM

        DxDiag

That must have been it. Now the displacement maps in the materials work again. How embaressing... thank you!

Correction. What I thought was the displace were the normal maps...
Displacement with a VrayBlendMtl in another VrayBlendMaterial doesnt seem to work... is that normal? Somewhat unfortunate...
