No license server in start menu?

Hey guys,

We have an issue here where a couple of our render nodes aren't finding licenses. We've tracked it down to my colleagues PC not running the VRLservice. There used to be "register vray license server as a service" and "start vray license server" buttons in the start menu, but these don't appear to be there any more - so how exactly are we supposed to start the vrl service?

We've tried the "start vray online license server" but to no avail. We can't access localhost:30304 on his machine either - confirming something isn't running.

I would start by reinstalling the License service and see if that helps as it is a separate install now and should be quick to do.

The V-Ray Online License Server registers as a service upon installation and it is no longer necessary to start it or register it manually.

Not being able to access the web interface at http://localhost:30304 indicates that there might be an issue with the license server installation or there is a firewall/antivirus application that is blocking the access to port 30304.
As Syclone1 suggested the first step is to try and reinstall the license server. You can find the latest standalone installer here - https://download.chaosgroup.com/license-server

Also please note that it is not necessary to install the V-Ray Online License Server on each node - you can configure V-Ray to obtain its license from a V-Ray License server running on a remote computer on the local network. Please check the documentation here for additional information:

If you are still experiencing the issue afterwards please send an e-mail to support@chaosgroup.com - please let us know what is the exact error that you get on the render nodes, what is the version of the operating system and the version of V-Ray and 3ds Max that your are using.

Well, the nodes seem to be fine now...

But now MY pc isn't finding a licence - even though the dongle says I am using it. This is making me want to tear my hair out. It would happen on a f***ing friday afternoon too, wouldn't it.

I would double check on your workstation that your V-Ray "Change V-Ray client license settings" is pointing to the computer hosting the license (even if its your computer), and either way I would try using the computer name and if that doesn't work then try the IP address and if its on your own workstation again try the computer name or IP instead of localhost. I have had hit or miss on which one works, usually if one doesn't then the other should. and make sure to use run as administrator when you do otherwise the settings most likely wont stick.
