  • New V-Ray Hair shader - Any Updates?

    Hi all, Hi Vlado.

I saw this post on facebook, https://www.facebook.com/CoronaRende...type=3&theater

Corona has a new hair shader and it prompted me to ask if there was any progress on V-Rays new hair shader?

    Thanks.

    Steve

Yes, the shader is mostly completed and will be available in a future V-Ray update.

Vlado, I was thinking about new idea for rendering hair.

Its basically render time subdivision for hairs.

Imagine you create a hair with 5 subdivisions, so the hair would appear as a zig-zag, 3 dimensional line through space.

              Now apply VRayHairSubdiv

The hair, smooths at render-time to represent a perfect curve interpolating between vertices.

That way hair can be made with lower abbounts of points and be interpolated into a smooth curve at render time.

              What do you think ?

In Max there is already an option "Dynamic tessellation" in the VRayHairFarmMod and VRayOrnatrixMod that does this.

                Best regards,

We already have this option in the VRayOrnatrixMod and VRayHairFarmMod modifiers - it's called "dynamic tessellation". See here for more information:

Those examples look fantastic Vlado! Will this shader support max Hair and Fur?

What is the advantage of the new hair shader?
                        More accurate scattering?
                        Realistic specular?

It has more realistic scattering, simplified color controls (through a melanin parameter) and various randomization options built-in.
