  • Feedback on 3.6 version

Hi, just checking today first time the new version and i noticed some things that could be improved in my opinion:

    - View navigation in IPR is working only when camera is there, it should just work in perspective as well.
    - Most of right click functions in IPR are buggy. I cant select an object neither its material most of the times. Focus distance is also bugging a lot, i have to resize the IPR so it starts working again.
    - Bloom etc is slow and not realtime, seems always very heavy. I wish i could use it as i do in octane which is actually real time no matter how heavy scene is.
    - Some important functions related to our render are hidden away in max render tab : camera lock and ipr resolution fit to frame buffer. Both should be on vfb window (a lock or camera icon to lock the view i am in at the moment and the resolution button so to link it real time with my ipr window or not).
    - When i add vray exposure control in IPR, i need close it and reopen it, refresh doesnt do the trick (this happens with other stuff as well cant remember now)
    - Light select (unless im doing something wrong, doesnt match with beauty, it like its missing GI?) I add lights on top of each other with ADD (exr 16 bit render in AE with ae project settings 32 bit/srgb/linearize on). Is that the correct way or?

Thats it for my brief testing today, i hope these remarks are helpful

    thanks for ur time

Can you give me more details on this? It seems to work fine here. Is it specific to a scene or just in general?

The "full" mode of the light select render element only works with the light cache and/or brute force GI. I don't really want to make it work for the irradiance map.

Will consider the rest of the comments. Thanks for the feedback!

I tried it in a very simple scene 2-3 teapots and a plane nothing fancy. And it was not working, my mouse becomes a cross but cant pick anything. It kinda unstuck if i dragged a bit the VFB window to resize it (so ipr recalculates), but in general, i couldnt use it almost at all. It was like broken. I ll try at the office more these days when we upgrade to see if this behaviour is only at my home pc.

Ye i guess, ignoring IM is ok, personally since 3.x version i ve never used IM again just for test renders

          Hello,

One thing that comes to mind from your description is the following: currently when the IPR rendering is done the picking stops working.
In a very simple scene that can happen very fast - V-Ray will reach the required noise level and will stop rendering. Then if you drag the window, resize or anything else that triggers IPR recalculation - the picking starts working again.

In more complicated scenes where the rendering doesn't end fast - this should not be an issue. Also - we'll be thinking about some way to make the picking work even after rendering is done.

          Best regards,
