  • vray 3.6 adaptive lights reflect noise/sub-pixel issue ?

    hi,
didn`t want to post this as a problem, i`m assuming this is the same auto turned off sub-pixel issue of adaptive lights rendering ?
the reflection in the images, the only difference is changing adaptive lights to uniform probabilistic to allow sub-pixel mapping.
the issue with adaptive is that without cranking up the aa max subdivs by quite a bit it doesn`t seem to go away, but that just increases render time to the point which seems to negate the point of using the faster adaptive lights method.
interestingly switching from bf/lc to bf/bf even with adaptive lights on sorts it as well which makes it look like it`s the light cache not playing nice with adaptive lights for the reflection ?

    thanks

Adaptive lights works in CPU only when light cache is used.

      hi blago,
this *is* cpu render only. i don`t use gpu/ipr/rt . this is what i get as a reflection with adaptive lights with cpu render.
      thanks

Yes, I know. I am saying that adaptive lights will turn off the sub-pixel mapping. Also, in the CPU they work only when you have light cache. Having off the sub-pixel mapping is what most likely causes that effect.

          hi,
thanks for the response, if this is expected behaviour then adaptive lights is kind of useless to me. i can`t rely on it for production if this is the output it will produce as pushing up values to reduce the noisy/sub-pixel impact will increase render times meaning no benefit over full evaluation/probablistic at default values which doesn`t have this issue.?
or is there a way to work around this ?
          thanks

There is currently no work-around for this, but I'm looking at some possible options for 3.60.02. It will be helpful if you can attach a scene for the images from the first post to make sure that we handle your use case as well.

            Best regards,

cool, i`ll send it in. i know there`s issues with the sub-pixel thing and adaptive lights, also maybe i`m not doing it correctly and overelying on sub pixel ? i just don`t know how else to sort it without high settings.
edit: odd that there`s a discrepancy between bf/bf and bf/lc though, i thought adaptive lights was the culprit. also i admit my aa settings are probably a bit low but for an SD render 30mins a frame was taking the peas a bit, and the rest looked fine, just the (slight glossy) reflections.
              thanks vlado
