  • denoising after the fact

ive got some horrible rendering costs appearing, and i might have to increase my noise threshold a touch to keep within budget. i cant use vraydenoiser because i have glass in my scene, and im rendering on gpu.. so, assuming no extra channels rendered out, what is the best way to remove a little grain from an animated sequence? neatvideo? is there a better option?

A couple months ago I got away with using almost default BF+BF settings just kicked up the shading if I remember and then let denoiser clean up the rest and it worked very well and there was no obvious artifacts or flickering.
    Cheers,

yes but i cannot use denoiser. rt gpu does not respect the "affect all channels" option for glass.. this means the denoiser elements do not include anything behind glass. in my scene thats most of it.

when you run denoiser on this scene, the bits in front of the glass look fine, but the bits behind go all smooshy and horrible.

so, as i said, i need a denoising solution that i can use on simple renders after the fact.. it wont be a lot of noise, but more than id like.

I've had great success with the magic bullet denoiser. Works really well on dark areas which is the bulk of rendering noise for me. I actually have to add noise back when I'm compressing video on occasion because it smoothed out the colors so well that banding gets introduced by the compression codec sometimes. Only downside is that it needs AE.

I think they have a demo, worth a look.
