  • LUT not giving same results

    Hello,
Am sure this was already discussed here, but i didn't find solution so here is my issue.

When trying to create custom LUT to use in VFB directly, i dont get same result as for example from Magic bullet. In images att. you can see the difference, RGB pass is very much the same but the same LUT behaves very differently. This one is not, mine this is from deluts so it should be proper.

Any suggestions what i could be doing wrong, or how to fix this ?

    Thanks a lot,
    Stefan

It's a little hard to figure out, can you give us more specific reproduction steps?

    Best regards,

      Definitely,
well the scene in Vray, is nothing more than 2 plane lights, applied checker map on it with reflections. Rendered on GPU, saved as EXR in 32 bit depth.
Than i do color grading in AE in magic bullet, so i just loaded the EXR from vray there, applied LUT and that is it. And my goal is to create custom LUTs so i can save directly from VFB. This is why i tried to apply same LUT in VFB and this was the difference. And frankly the LUT it self doesn't look like a problem cause i tried mine custom LUT and also DEluts whole collection. Also on other images but same issue. Differences are varying tho. Some LUT is more washed out VFB and some have bigger contrast.

I can also submit a scene but it is nothing more that what you see, default GPU setting and thats it.
      THanks
      Stefan

Some of the LUT files might be expecting Log space - so try to have this turned on and try to Disable the sRGB correction of the VFB.

          OUH ! YES !

the log difference i know about but didn't occur to me that the sRGB could be a problem. So that mean that the LUTs are having sRGB correction baked in them ? therefore i was applying it 2 times in VFB ?
          Am just trying to understand.

OK, so did some more tests and it doesn't work in all cases. I am trying all possible combinations. on/off sRGB, on/off log no log. in some cases it is still quite different.
Is there some rule for this ? i mean especially when i want to create my own LUTs, what to do in order to work with some case ?

Thank a lot for help on this

              OK so new test.
in VFB where i don;t apply sRGB curve and use LUT it is the closest from all other options, but still not quite the same.

                OMG, found out the problem.
Kinda embarrassing. Didn't have linearize on while in AE. So that is about it.

If somebody will have same adventure at least he will find it here.
                thanks, sorry for spam
