I know this isn't Vray specific but as the feedback on this forum is awesome i thought i would ask the question. Im using 3ds Max 2018 everything has run fine but for some reason i have a few view port glitches and wanted to check if it could be the driver i use. Anyone using a 1080 card and if so what driver are they using.
I am using the 384.76 driver

Search the forum for bitmap quality. In that thread, the mention of an older tested driver is the one I am using. Like you, 1080 is glitchy with newer drivers.

That's disappointing. I'll bring this up internally to see what can be done.

I'm constantly getting geo "disappearing" when in Standard shaded mode if any material (Standard or VRay) has show map in viewport toggled ON. The only way to see the object is to turn on edged faces to select it. It makes it extremely difficult to texture objects when as soon as a material is assigned it disappears.

        Specs:
3DS Max 2017 (Still working on a few massive projects and can't update for new production)
        nVidia 1080 w/ Driver ver: 384.76
        Dual Xeon 2670 v4, Asus Z10PE-D8 WS, 256GB RAM, 960 Pro M.2 SSD (OS)

That was the driver I was on previously where my viewports would crash and turn black while the rest of Max kept working fine. All of my issues are directly related to the GTX 1080 card. I put in a Quadro K6000 I have lying around in my office, updated drivers and it works without issue. So it's definitely a 1080 related issue. Even my TitanXP cards in my home rig don't have this problem. So it's been super frustrating trying to track this one down.

A few reboots are usually required and then it will work for about half the day and then it will "break" again.

Strange - will see how it goes although i have now resorted to using my old 680 card for display purposes and 1080 for gpu

Interesting, on my 1080ti the performance is very choppy especially when scrubbing/rotating in the viewport etc. General video playback is not smooth across the board either I have wandered the web for answers and appears to be an ongoing issue with 1080's that doesn't seem like it is going to be fixed anytime soon as the 90 page forum post is from way into last year about it!

Deflaminis, could you push them on this issue It is something to do with DPC.

                Thanks!

I finally just pulled all of my 1080 cards out of all my machines and just replaced them with TitanXP cards. After reboot, all my problems have disappeared and I'm now getting proper viewport textures and no random glitches. (Using the exact same driver as was used with the 1080 cards).

The good thing is that the 1080 cards found a new home where there will not create any Max havoc.

Still very strange, but I'm the only person in the office with 1080 cards and I was the ONLY person having these strange Viewport issues. NOTE: My 1080 cards were the Founders Edition and not the newer 1080Ti version, so I don't know if that matters.

Yes I will bring this up in the next meeting. Thank you all for the information.

Just for the record I am using a Evga 1080ti Founders Edition. Thats interesting to note Troy! There does seem to be a fundamental issue, it is driving me mad.

Agreed, it's very annoying. Since moving to the TitanXP, it's been almost 3 days and not a single problem with viewports. The 1080 would last about 2-3 hours and then the viewport textues / geo would disappear. So I'm feeling encouraged that this just may be an issue with the 1080 cards. Hopefully it's not too widespread and that Autodesk and nVidia can figure out this issue and we can all move onto bigger and better things!

So could anybody confirm that they've had good luck with any edition of the 1080 or 1080 ti, with any drivers? Seriously considering purchasing a 1080 ti soon, but all I would use it for is Max + VRay and a combo of viewport and GPU rendering. Not sounding so great for those purposes...?

                          Thanks!

It is driving me insane! I've been installing every driver going, v-sync settings, installed the newly released Realtek Audio drivers as suggested, any other kind of tip I can find online and nothing works. Choppy video playback in general, lots of screen tearing and quite poor in Max (not smooth). Benchmarked it and it comes out with crazy high scroes etc so I don't know what else to try! I am on Windows 7 still maybe that's an issue I don't know.

The Boost frequency supposed to be 1582MHz ... MSI afterburner and Evga Precision report a boost upto 1825MHz .. that seems a massive jump! Anyway going to take this onto the Nvidia forums. If anyone figures anything out then let me know

Looks like Ill be skipping the 1080's O_O Not going to drop $900 on a card that gives major hassles.
                              Cheers,
