Glass window material - compare

Hi guys,

I just wanna ask what is your material setup for simple glass window. When camera is in interior and looking through interior and big glass windows to exterior or from exterior to interior, what is your material on that glass. Just want to compare how you guys doing this because it could be really important. Is it just black diffuse and white reflection and refraction or something else/more?

Yup, that's the base setup I start with. If i'm doing (for example) a big glass office block that might have solar-control glazing to stop solar gain I might increase the IOR from the standard 1.5/1.6 to anything between 1.8 and 3.0 to increase the reflectivity. Aside from that just an extremely slight green tint in the fog colour and that's it.

I'll use the exact same glass regardless of the shot being interior or exterior. Too many people over-complicate things with falloff maps and such, I think.

I do it the same way, but sometimes result is not as good as I expect. This is why I ask about some any other ways. Bump can do little bit to make glass not so perfect, but still its not where I want it to be.

'reflect on back side' option is a must for good looking refractive mats.

Check out the boundary blog. They have a post on glass in the making of carey house posts. I use the same set-up and it works really well imo.

depends on how complicated the geometry is I guess. if we ware talking double glazed windows I would say not much.
