  • opacity mask on material working on alpha

    Basic question for you guys

I want to render a tree and remove the background in post with my alpha mask. The leafs of the tree are planes but the shape of the leafs is given by the opacity of the vray material slot but alpha does not read the opacity material only the geo

How can i make the alpha mask to read it the way i want?

    Thanks in advance

You should be able to get the alpha of the leaf with this setup. Can you post part of the scene to see the the scene setup ?

it is a regular scene the only thing i would highlight is the fact that I have render mask activated in image sampler to render only the objects that are inside the layers and i also saved them in png 48bits with alpha channel activated . attached sample of what i am talking about.

In order to get the alpha mask for this tree with Render mask enabled, you will need to make all objects behind invisible or matte. Similar issue was discussed in this forum thread https://forums.chaosgroup.com/forum/...pacity-Broken=

No changes in that regard in the latest releases.

So sorry to revive this corpse, but has this ever been resolved? I'm facing the exact same problem right now.

I'm sorry to report it, but we don't have any changes made on this topic yet. This case seems to be in our to-do list for a long time and I'm going to notify our product manager about that.

Okay thanks for getting back to me. It's important, so I know I'm not doing anything wrong. I will find a workaround eventually in post.
