  • Reflection through the glass. Workaround is needed.

    Hi,
I hope the picture below is self explanatory.
There is only one light in the scene which illuminates only teapot with mirror material through the "Include/Exclude" Option
How can I keep the reflection of the light source visible if I put the teapot behind the panel with standard glass material?
    Thanks!

    Here is the scene: http://ftp.chaosgroup.com/support/sc...tion_light.max

Can you attach that scene so I could have a look at it?
Also what is the V-Ray version that you are using?

        Hi Svetlozar,
Did you have a chance to check my scene?
        Thanks

I tested the scene and managed to replicate that behavior, it looks like the lights reflections are indeed blocked by the glass-object between the light and the teapot.
In my scene it worked fine since I've used a glossy material for the teapot and V-Ray Sky which is not the same setup.
I did some experiments with Overriding materials for the glass and I managed to get the lights reflections visible but the appearance is not the same.

          Here are examples.

And this is the scene: http://ftp.chaosgroup.com/support/sc...t_Select01.max

Let us know if that would work for you or you need something else.
If it doesn't work please describe what exactly you would like to achieve and we'll see if there is a way to get it.

Just a quick update - if you exclude the glass object from the reflection trace set of the teapot you should get the expected behavior.

Thank you guys for your solutions!
              That's what I need
Just would like to know if it is expected behaviour of VRay?

It is. The teapot was actually reflecting the glass, but since the glass was excluded from the light and didn't reflect it, then it didn't show up on the teapot as well.
