  • urgent! license sharing/lending

Hi, i need to render 2 images today, but my renderbox is down. my partner can render on his machine, but he is in another country, and does not own vray.

i have 6 rendernode licenses, and im using dongle/online license server

how do i lend him a rendernode license?

and with a rendernode license, i assume he can open max and render a scene? or will it pull my main interface license and kick me off?

The V-Ray Online License Server works with both WibuKey dongles and Online licensing however the setup will be different depending on which one you use.

If your licenses are provided online then install the V-Ray Online License Server at your partner side and activate it using your username. Then you can set the render nodes to obtain the licenses from it over the local network- please check the documentation here for additional information: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...cense+Settings

To restrict which licenses your partner can use you can "Borrow" the ones that you don't want him to have access to. This will reserve them for the license server running at your side and they will appear as engaged in his V-Ray Online License Server.

If the licenses are on a dongle you will need to dedicate a computer at your side to act as a V-Ray License Server then you can use third party applications to set up a VPN connection between you and your partner. Then you will need to point the render nodes to obtain the license from the computer at your side. Please note that dongle licenses cannot be "borrowed" and your partner will have access to all of the licenses on that dongle.

Opening 3ds Max to render a scene with V-Ray will also engage a V-Ray for 3ds Max GUI (interface) license. Exporting the scene to vrscene format and rendering with V-Ray Standalone will only engage a V-Ray render node license: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...tandalone+Home

Online licensing (OLS) is currently available for new license purchases only, as our existing licensing system does not allow migration of licenses from dongles to OLS. We are actively working on a fast and reliable license migration tool, however it is still in the making.

Any updates on the license migration tool so we can transfer licences from the dongle to the newer Online Licensing?

The license migration tool is not ready yet. Our developers are working to push the release as soon as possible.
