  • Banding - how to get rid of...

How do I get rid of the banding in the image below??? It is specially visible in the darker areas of the image - I have tried numerous settings for antialiasing, lights and QMC.

Image below is a region from a 3500px rendering (note theres a gap between ceiling and wall). I am using a simple setup with Vray lights in window openings (glass hidden)

    Vray 1.46.10 and Max6.

    Current settings:
AA: Adaptive subdiv 0/2 (also tried Adaptive QMC for AA)
    GI: 1st - Irrmap / 2nd Lightmap
IRRmap: Medium / Hsph=50/Interp.=40 (tried higher as well)
    Lightmap: Subdivs=2000 / pre-filter=20 / Sample size=0.005 / Interp.samples=20
    QMC sampler: Adap.am=0.85 / Noise.thres=0.005 / Min Samples=16 / Global subdivs=16

Even if you take it into Photoshop and adjust the levels there's no banding.

Well I can see really heavy banding, it looks dreadful. If I were your client I would be VERY upset, in fact, I would take it that you were trying to insult me personally.

Sorry, just looked again and there's no banding on my (CRT) monitor.

No banding - must be a monitor issue. Many LCDs dont have the same color depth as CRTs. Or it could just be a crappy video card.

not only is there no banding, this must be one of the best image Ive ever seen... The simplicity... the depth... I can just keep staring at it and see new things all the time...

oh wait I just looked at it from another monitor... I dont like it anymore.. hehe j/k
