I linearised a RAW from our Nikon D800E using dcraw, and boy does the image look shitty. I never imagined that an image straight from the sensor looks this way. Seems there is happening a lot internally to the RAW until you see it on screen.

Would you mind to post the two Images?
I linearised footage from a canon eos 600d and a black magic cinema 4k using a colorchecker passport and a Kodak q13 chart before.
But I was never quite sure if I managed to do it properly.
I'd love to see your result.
German guy, sorry for my English.

If anybody could describe the process step-by-step for dummies, I would do this to all the cameras we have and share the resulting LUTs. Can't hurt.

Sure, here they are. No color checker scenario, but I tested the linear raw process with some images I had lying around, to see if I can get it to work. I don't know if this should be the intended result, but I don't think I did anything wrong.
Left is RAW from Camera Raw, right is linearized RAW from dcraw.

The right one strangely reminds me of car renders using V-Ray Sun I did a looong time ago, when I disabled the "display colors in sRGB-space" button by accident...
