  • mirrored room

    Hi all,
I am trying to do something pretty simple ( I think its simple ). I have a room that has all the wall mirrored. The ceiling is white and the floor is gray. Why am I getting a black stripe in the reflections? I have enclosed a sample render and a sample of the inspiration photo.

    Thanks
    Alex

Whats your Reflection max depth on ?

I think I figured it out. I had to set the Trace Depth in the V-Ray-RT to something like 100 then set my max depth in the material to 100. I still see a line buts it much better. Does anyone know how I get rid of that dark line?

Maybe make the reflection either very slightly glossy or make the reflection color slightly below white. Or use the reflection exit color.

        Best regards,

Vlado's solution makes perfect sense. If you think about what is going on in the real world, the microscopic imperfections that make things "rough" are always there. 100% glossiness doesn't exist. So when you have a case like this infinite mirror room, those imperfections become more apparent as they are multiplied by each mirror bounce. That's what gives that exponential effect of glossiness. The green color that starts to appear I think is because of the way mirrors are made. It is a piece of glass over a thin metal foil. That glass "fog color" also gets exponentially multiplied and becomes more apparent with each bounce. So when you have both the slight reflection glossiness of the foil, and the slight refraction imperfections of the glass, you get that infinite mirror effect and the fade to green.
