  • EnvironmentFog + 3ds max noise map controlling density

I'm using an vray environment fog effect in the current scene i'm working on. I get good results that render fairly fast when I use all the normal settings, but once I plug a 3ds max noise map into the fog density slot the rendering takes so long that I have yet to see even a single bucket finish. The noise map is set to world space coordinates and I have "optimized atmos. evaluation" checked in the system rollout. Is there anything I'm missing that could help speed up the rendering?

Yes, you can control speed by tweaking Step Size and Texture Samples parameters.
Increasing Step Size will speed up the rendering.
Decreasing Texture Samples will also speed up the rendering.

Other parameters like Cutoff Threshold, Max Steps, Subdivs, Scater Bounces will also affect render time.
More information about VRayEnvironmentFog could be found here:
