  • rendering and windows 10 updates

    Hi guys

I thought id post in here and i hope it was ok to do so. Anyway, since updating to windows 10 and the mandatory updates, it has been driving me a bit crazy and im not sure if anyone else is experiencing similiar problems. Anyway, i would be rendering jobs overnight only to come to the workstation on the morning to see either the PC off or it has been restarted all due to the mandatory installations. Has anyone else experienced this? Ive looked online for solutions but for whatever reason they still happen.

    Looking forward to your responses.

Yes, it's happened to me - I left an animation to render overnight only to be greeted by a clean login screen the next morning and only five frames done. On another occasion, Windows updated and rebooted literally as I was typing something - no warnings, nothing.

What did you do about it? I mean it keep happening to me so im thinking of reinstalling windows as the updates keep wanting to happen. I think there is something broken in the installation

you can disable the windows update service "wuauserv" and that will stop any unwanted updates.

There is windows LTSB but a bit difficult to get. Or Linux, really easy to get but you will have to switch to Houdini or Blender.

im stuck on build 1609 - which is a common problem. Microsoft support advised a full format! dammit

Ahg Windows 10, its a real jerk. An update kept failing install, would re-download and reboot workstations every night. The IT guy finally fixed it but it was super annoying. It does not feel like much of an upgrade over Win7.

Ive set active hours during the night so it will only update during the day when I can keep track of them. Has worked well so far.
