  • Adaptive amount?

    What exactly is the Adaptive amount in the QMC sampler? Having read the help file provided by vray, i am even more confussed.

    A value of 1.0 means full adaption (Obviously i have no idea, but i would have thought this would lead to longer render times) In actuality, a lower amount such as 0.4 is rendering longer. But i have no idea what difference it is making to the rendering process, so;

    What effect does this have on the render? Can anyone sum it up in plain simple English?

    Qmc algorithm mainly checks if samples are 'good enough' or not. This is checked by the threshold value. If it's too low, vray will calculate further to make the sample better. So actually, the calculation adapts itsself to the situation of the current sample. If there is no adaptation, every sample will be treated the same (so every sample will take a long time to compute). With high adaptiation, only some samples will get full attention and many others will do with low calculation time.

    That is how I see it

    But it's not likely you will use this a lot, if you can't get good enough results by altering every other settings (GI, glossies, threshold, ...), you could try to lower this adaptation value.
