  • distributed rendering and xref scenes

Maybe this is a bug, maybe not. Does VRay distributed rendering work with Xref'd Scenes?

When I try my file with distributed rendering, my machine picks up ok, but the buckets sent to the other machines come back with just the background color, and not the information from the scenes that were xref'd.

If I merge the Xref'd scenes into my file, then the distributed rendering works like it is supposed to.

    Any comments or ideas?

    ts.

I Guess it is a limitation, xref objects work though.

Are you sure the slaves have access to the xref files?

all files are on the same server, and the slave machines are mapped to that server. so yes, i am 99.9% sure they have access to them, unless there is a seperate setup for spawner.

it is the same setup we use when running backburner, and the slaves run fine.

can anyone else try and produce this problem.........

I havnt used xrefed scenes as I had a hell of a time trying to get them to work properly but I have been using vrayproxies alot and have 1 machine here that allways renders at least 1 of the proxies either not at all or solid black but still not to sure why as 3 other machines can render it ok

If I get a chance a little later Ill try to reproduce your problem...

XRef scenes DO NOT work with DR, your options ARE XRef Objects and VRay Proxies, simple as that.

Same here, you must use unc names for the proxies, but that still doesn't work 100% it routinely drops objects.
