Not sure if this is new but I just found this http://www.ict.usc.edu/graphics/skyprobes/ on debevec.org...

At the bottom of the page is a nice zip with a pile of sky probes in it

is it me or is there something wrong with the probe files? there coming out with straight black on the lower half and a half white sphere on the upper half of the image. And it shows up the same with a vrayhdr map in max and if I open it in HDRshop.

          They Are only sky...

Place a vray plane in your scene and map a ground plane and your all set.

They've been there for several weeks- I haven't been able to map them properly using Vray HDRI.

ive found if you load them with the max hdri / brazil .. then you can control the white point and decreese it .. then it works fine.

For quick reuse you can also take them into HDRIshop hit "-" (Stop Down) until you get a descent looking exposure and then hit "Ctrl+0" Scale to Current Exposure and resave, which should make it more useable with the VRayHDRI loader.

I can't download files that large here at work. Would someone mind sending me just one so I can test it today? Just one that has a few clouds and the sun visible would be nice. Thanks

                    Hi all !

Does anyone succeed in setting up these skies with this noisy sunlight ?
I've tried with splutterfish plugin but it doesn't align the map correctly.
Vray hdr align it correctly with the angular mode but it is so noisy.
The output map also gives the same result on the last one.

                    Anyone has an idea ?
                    Thanks
                    Gael

I haven't been completely successful but I have some observations.

The detail is much better with VRayHDRI but I can't get rid of the noise.

It works with the Splutterfish loader and the noise only happens when Real Pixels (32 bpp) is checked.

Maybe some sort of conversion in HDR Shop that I'm missing?

Well one solution would be to convert the mapping with the Panorama filter in HDR Shop and just use the splutterfish loader.

I do have the same results Trapezium !

Vlado did tell me to use an output map but it just manages the intensity
and colors, not so bad sure, but not what we want.

Debevec explains that you have to decrease the noise sun in setting up
the white point (like in the splutterfish plugin ...?) and use a direct light
at the place of the hdr sun.
                          Did you understand like that.

One think, I don't understand well is the 53° ...
                          That's all for the moment.

                            Hi Gael,

                            Where are you reading this?

The images I'm testing with have been scaled to current exposure as I described above. Did you do the same?

                              Hi Trapezium !

                              I read it here :
                              http://www.ict.usc.edu/graphics/skyprobes/

                              in the link :skycapture_afrigraph2004.pdf

It describes how Paul Debevec uses sky hdr images and how he made them.
