I think one of the things that hurt the forum was not being able to filter out the sub sections that you weren't interested in when you hit the whats new button. The number of times i've been sitting reading something for modo or revit the suddenly realise its not a max topic....face plant !

Private forums like this are still superior though, especially for a specialised, professional purpose.
I mean, in theory Chaosgroup *could* set up a group on Facebook and registered V-ray owners are given access, but they'd have a lot less control, be at the whim of Zuck, and there's no way to really organise it neatly.

This is obviously my opinion but...
No please...call me "unsocial"...but... leave Facebook for gossip, cats and harvest data like how many times you change your underwear during the day

        Vray support home is here.
A forum, in general, is really more manageable.

Ah, you max-centric folk, lol! Often something might be answered for a different version of V-Ray, but with the same engine it can be applicable across apps. I just read something about using window pane geometry as a mesh light for portals and was able to use that tip on my project. Yes, it can be more time to wade through sometimes, but otherwise you might miss useful info.

This is the sole reason why I'm on here much less. There was a bit of a community of max users and regulars, now that it's just a barrage of random questions that are either relevant to their software or i cant help with anyway because I cant post in that subforum. It's a lot to wade through and makes browsing the forums feel like a waste of time... but it's that casual 'i wonder whats going on' kind of browsing that creates more of a community.

I still try and check in regularly but I very rarely find myself digging deep enough through the 10+ pages of new posts to find something relevant to join in on.

I do miss the app days. Going to a web browser is so 2010. I was able to see the forum optimized for my phone and I was able to subscribe to whatever I wanted. Now, If another board is active, MAX stuff might not show up until you get on page 10. Who goes past page 1?

With the old forum you could also go to a specific page in a thread straight from the main page. Now you don't know how many pages a topic has until you go into it, and only then you can type a specific page

I hope it's not headed to facebook, I don't even have facebook and that makes me very happy.

Why would CG acquiring Corona kill the forums here? I don't understand that part. Still these forums are very useful...

Well, if V-Ray users flooded to Corona, they are over on the Corona forum.

Hmmm. Was there some kind of sidegrade? It's not like suddenly every Vray user got a Corona license. Or did they?

No, but it is cheap to get into Corona, so I think people might have been jumping ship for a while. I think it is more of the forum software change that causes more of the forum inactivity.
