  • Vray camera data taking distortion into account for aftereffects

Is there any way to do this? I'm currently using skfilms script to export my cam data to aftereffects but the distortion isn't taken into account because it's a rendertime effect.

Which distortion are you talking about, specifically?
By rights, it ought to be the export script, anyway, to read and write the right data, so i'd look into modding the script, provided the distortion you speak of is obtainable (ie. the physcam and AE camera models can be matched, which isn't a given.).

As you said, because it is render time distortion, there is no way to get it to AE. After effects camera doesn't support any lens distortion.
You could render lens distortion grid from Physical camera and distort your AE comp using that as a guide.

Indeed, this would be the manual approach, but the distortion bit may be quite difficult to match exactly.

I thiiiiiiink that russ anderson from ssontech wrote an after effects pixel bender script for after effects, might be worth a look?

            Thanks. I'll take a look.

It's the camera distortion shown attached.

This contains an AE (cc2018 ) and a Fusion file
              Distorsion.zip

I used 3de to match it.
              Its pretty expensive.
Not really worth the buy/rent if thats all you need from it.
If you want to do that from time to time SynthEyes + the plugin john posted would be much cheaper.
But in case you only need that particular distorsion setting this should work.

I noticed there is some wobbeling in the corners. I think this might be because the distorsion you choose isn't something a real lens would do. And 3de is made to match the kind of distorsion one would expect from a real lens.
I made another ae file using a different distorsion model in 3de. Might be a little better but not perfect im afraid.
Maby you can edit the grid to mach it perfectly. Its at least a good starting point.
