  • Looking for ACES example setup

    Hello,

I'm implementing native ACEScg support for V-Ray and some of the V-Ray components (i.e. VRayHDRI, VRaySun, VRaySky, temperature colors etc) and I need some scenes to verify the correctness of the implementation. Such a set up usually required an abundance of VRayOCIO textures before - if anyone can share such a set up, it will be extremely helpful.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Wondering how this ended up going. Our studio is starting to look into possibly standardizing on an ACES workflow in Max with VRay.

I got only one example. If you have something, please email me to vlado@chaosgroup.com, I would love to discuss this.

      Best regards,

sorry I just saw this Vlado. I'll email you as soon as I have something definitive. Unfortunately our studio is still in VRay 3.5 land.

Just as an update, the ACES pipeline thing has been a can of worms. There was a post by Lele a while ago where he was lamenting their approach of putting arbitrary looks into their rrt/odt stuff. I might be starting to side with him on the entire equation but I don't have enough concrete facts, and admittedly I might never be smart enough, to have strong opinions on it.

That being said I'm still plugging away and will share what I have found out when I have more concrete information

Notice my production experience with ACES was before ACEScg, and before the new map-less approach in V-Ray.
Circa 2013, and i should stress i am *not* a color scientist, albeit i am the studious type, so take with a pinch (or a ton, rather) of salt whatever may have come from me. :P
I'm all ears as to your experience though.
