Can't edit my forum signature

I get the following error when I attempt to save my new signature:

Error: There has been a database error, and the current page cannot be displayed. Site staff have been notified.

Ok, I think I know what caused this. I was using an unicode character (U+25A0). Once I replaced it with a vertical bar my signature was accepted. Maybe there was change in the signature requirements where unicode characters are no longer accepted.
