  • Black spots on curtains -please help!

    Hey guys/gals,

I know this has been discussed many times, but I've tried all the things that have helped others to no avail...

The curtains were made with reactor. There shouldn't be any face intersection though.

I've tried higher min/max rates (just makes the black look better )
I've also tried them with a default mat, same result.

I'm new to vray, any help is appreciated!
    Thanks, Randy.

Looks probably like some back face issue, you could try and use a solidify/shell modifier on your curtains to give them some thickness... or maybe I'm completely wrong.

min rate and max rate ... you have your as -3 .... -3 ..... set it to -3 ... -1 and see what happens. why have you got a reflection on the curtains ?that maybe causing a problem .. set it to black and glossy to 1 ..

well curtains with a very shiny type material would reflect, as does just about everything in this world. Maybe he's just going for that hyper hyper realism...

Wow, fast replys! You guys rock

Sushidelic: I just tried a shell modifier, didn't work.

natty: I tried -3/-1 last night, still black... (I also tried a default material)

the curtains are -supposed- to be silk (any material tips? )

          Thanks again for the replies!
          Randy.

            Maybe this will help.

            scene set up:

            light settings:

            EDIT:

hmmm, I got some improvement after making the vray lights smaller...

looks like I might be able to smooth it out now with -3/-1

I don't understand why that made an improvement but I'll take it

              Best regards,

                Hi Vlado,

Here is the material settings, though I had the same result with a standard default material.

I ended up using a good 'ole ffd curtain and the spots went away:

                LEFT: reactor
                RIGHT: ffd

The image is coming along nicely. I couldn't be more happy with vray

                c/c welcome
                thanks,
                randy.

Wow, Looks great. I especially like the white paint material on the trim work, very impressive.

                  Keep posting!

Very nice. Might I suggest using a curved lense? Perspective skewing is really bad in the foreground.

                          Excellent work room217!

I'd like to know where the plants come from (software/plugin or object library etc), and what was your rendering time on that picture along with your computer specifications if possible.

                          Thank you

WOW nice job, what kind of render times are you getting with all that in the scene?

                              Thanks guys,

The flowers are free xfog plants (I can't find the web page to save my life, but I'm sure it's still up).

It renders pretty fast imo, 2 hours using IR+Light cache with lots of glossies.

comp: dual 3ghz xeon, 1gb ram

I'm working on that rendering right now. I'm putting in a really nice crystal chandelier made up of hundreds of little bead-like crystals. (looks great in the picture I have of it LOL wish me luck)

plus a mirror over the mantel with a very ornate gold frame, again looks great in the picture... sigh

                              Thanks for the comments,
