ive never had a worthwhile result from hybrid rendering. my ratio of cpu-gpu has never been good enough i think.. i have a lowly 3930k (admittedly at 4.7 ghz) and a Titan X.. every time ive tried adding the cpu to the job , my rendertime actually goes up.
this weekend i upgraded my mobo to allow 64gb ram, and added a second titan x.
wondering if the extra ram might help, i opened my current gpu production scene ( maxes out the titanx'es ram, lots of forestpack and big textures etc)
results are as follows, and in line with all my past experiences of hybrid mode:
1x TitanX 7 minutes 40 seconds
1x 3930k cpu in cuda mode: 22 minutes 12 seconds.
2x TitanX 3 minutes 33 seconds
2x titanX + 3930k cpu 3 minutes 49 seconds.
so, question is, would an upgrade to next improve matters? or should i just forget about getting a bit of extra speed from my cpu?
