  • Scene lighting seems to change when I render above a certain size

Vray Next CPU, Max 2018, Windows 10, AMD Ryzen 1800x

So If I render at 8k across, it's fine, then when I got to 9 or 10k the lighting seems to change completely. It just gets much much more bright.

It's for an arc exterior using an HDRI but not adaptive.

    It's not embree,

I thought it was the automatic exposure control, but the results are different when I turn it off on the normal render - so it's not just "not working", maybe mis-working?

    It's really weird.

The scene is pretty big so I'm not going to back it up straight away - but has anyone else had this problem?

Can you send us the scene to support@chaosgroup.com ? This is the official V-Ray Next, not a nightly build?

It would be best to get us an example, not quite sure what's going on right away.

        Best regards,

I managed to reproduce the brightness difference between 7000 and 9000 res image and the case is now logged in our system. What you can do to avoid this "effect" is to transfer the calculated auto exposure to the scene camera.
          Thanks for the files JD3D_CGI,

So calculate it with a lower res size, transfer the camera, and then render large?

            Got it.

            Thanks for taking a look!

Besides this issue, if all one needs is a quick exposure, rendering the image at *any* size is going to be equally quick: it's the LC (which is resolution independent), not the final tracing, which does the magic, so after the LC is done, one can stop the render and transfer over.

This bug is fixed and most probably will be part of the next update.
