  • Crash UNHANDLED EXCEPTION render effects on render end

    Hi,

I'm using Vray Next and now I get an error at the end of the render:
"error: UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: Applying render effects. Last marker is at C:\builder\cgrepo\vray\src\vrayrenderer.cpp, line 3609; Preparing global light manager"

Took me a while to see this error cause usually max crashes without seeing the error.
What can I do to fix this issue?

I'm rendering on my workstation with 10 rendernodes, psd manager to save the psd files. Railclone and forest objects, which are working fine, BatchCam to render multiple camera's & settings.
    Thanks!
    Pieter

    Hey Pieter,

    1. What's your V-Ray version? (type vrayversion() in the max script listener)
    2. Is this happening on any scene?
    3. Is it crashing without DR?
If it was that easy, it would have already been done

      Hi,

This is my Vray version: #("4.02.04.00001", "", "477dda1e")
I've had this issue with other scenes too, (don't know if it occurs on any scene)
Haven't tried this wo DR, I'll check that later today or tomorrow.

        Hi Peter,

Without the DR it seems to render fine.
I've seen the render ending last time with the DR, everything renders fine, render completes, psd manager outputs the psd correctly.
Then the vray messages seems to end with the green warning line which comes usually in the end (just some material warnings, after changing to Next)
Finally max disappears suddenly wo warning.

Can you please let me know what I can get you to figure this out, because each render will get done, but I'll have to restart max again each time which takes at least 15min.
Also how can I check the versions for the DR nodes? like the vrayversion() on the workstation locally.

        Thanks
        Pieter

Just download the latest official version from our site and it will be fine.

Don't forget to update the DR hosts too.
If it was that easy, it would have already been done

Hi Peter, thank you for your reply.

Does this mean that there is an updated version? I've installed this version on my workstation and render nodes: vray_adv_40204_max2017_x64.exe
Is there a way to check on the nodes which version is installed?
            Thanks

EDIT: I've checked the render nodes, in the vraylog files each node has the 4.02.04.00001 installed

              Remotely - no.

Yes, there is an updated version - the one on the website. Now if you updated properly and run the vrayversion() command, the result should be 4.02.04.00004

                  Hi Peter,

i have the same error here on version 4.02.04.00004. It happens at very high resolutions (17000x17000 pixel), with lower resolutions up to 9000x9000 i have no problems.
Do you have any idea what i can do to solve this issue.

Maybe you are running out of memory? Try monitoring your CPU RAM usage when you hit render with the Task Manager.

                      Thanks,

I already always keep an eye on my ram (just to see wether max is still loading (like proxies etc))
Haven't rendered that hi resolution in a while but I'll post again here if there's a problem again.

I was now able to render my image without any errors by removing the denoiser render element. The denoiser seems to have problems with renderings at that high resolution.

It should not. Can you tell me on what device are you denoising? There are some lines in the log for that -

                            Hi Peter,

is there a log file anywhere because this machine is only my render slave? It is a Windows Server 2012 with 256GB RAM. I'm only able to render remotely on this machine.

                            Best,
                            Ralf

Type %temp% in a windows explorer, press enter and then find "vraylog.txt" in the folder.
