  • HDRI dome light ignoring opacity map

I'm currently doing a scene based in NYC with a skyline image placed on a sphere. (Based on The Boundary scene 3 model). However I noticed a weird bug/problem where the vraydomelight with hdri ignores the opacity map on the sphere. If I turn off refraction/reflection in the object properties then that fixes the opacity, however then my reflections/refractions are screwed as they only show the hdri reflection (i.e. a black groundplane and sky). Using a vraysun/sky doesn't give any issues and works as expected.

Below a downloadlink to a stripped scene with some generic/free maps to replace the copyright stuff.

You can just turn the hdri or sun on/off to see the effect.

Am I missing a setting in the hdri or is this a bug?

We are having the same issue but we have a vray light material on a plane - same issue that you cant see the dome where the alpha is on the plane. This was updating an old scene that worked before. We are on Vray next.

In my older scenes (pre next) I've haven't come across this issue either.

Hopefully its just a new setting to switch somewhere. *fingers crossed*

          Hello,

What if you turn ON the "Cast Shadows" option of the sphere ?

          Best regards,
          Yavor

            Hi,

That helps thanks! One step further, however now I can still see the outline of the geometry, but the map is full white / black. Its visible in both the vraysun and hdri versions. An option would be to just leave the sphere complete.

Seems to be fixed if I turn On the "Multiply color by opacity" option in the light material
