Vray next freezes/hangs every few seconds when rendering.

I have been noticing it for a while now but now it is at a point where it gets on my nerves enough that I have to ask.
When I am rendering a scene my pc will become unresponse/hangs for a few seconds. (Mouse not moving, can't click anything, vfb doesn't update)
Then suddenly my system becomes responsive again until a few seconds later and so on. This will repeat until the render is done.

I am using:
Vray Next 4.02.04.28397
3ds Max 2019

Fresh installed Windows 10 Pro (Version 1803)

This problem also happened on my other windows 10 machine and seems to only occur when using Vray.

Is there anything I can do to fix this problem? It makes multitasking while a Render is running impossible.

You can use the environment variable VRAY_NUM_THREADS to specify one thread less than the number of cores in the system for rendering.

Hello slizer.
First of all thank you for the response. Where would I enter VRAY_NUM_THREADS?
But I never had to do that before. I could use all threads and still could do other things on my pc. Did something within vray change or is that a windows 10 issue?

VRAY_NUM_THREADS is an environment variable, you can google how those are used.

It's a system issue - everything freezes because V-Ray is utilising the processor at 100%. While it "hangs" it is still rendering at full speed so you are not loosing any render time.
