  • Next GPU - Render with WHITE background - HOW??? Affect background has no effect

    Hi Guys

Simple scene. Set max environment to white. Render with CPU. All good.
Switch to GPU, it renders much darker background. The Affect background in color mapping has no effect.

    Max 2019, Next 4.02.04.00004

EDIT: Actually this is not working with CPU either

I'm sure with 3.6 and 2016 this use to work with CPU

      Exactly
      So affect background not supported
Which brings me back to the question. How to render an exact colour for background?
Or simply a case that VRay cant handle such complex task and I should make background white in post?
      Kind Regards,

What if you used a VrayColor for the background, and normalised it to 1.0 via the RGB multiplier (ie. inverse expose it)?
You'd have to exclude it from GI and so on, ofc.

        Or Render with buckets.

Or wait until GPU has buckets (soon enough, hopefully.)

Thanks Lele I gave that a try. Hopefully I understood you correctly. So I made the VRayColor white and rendered (it renders the same as just using white swatch from the max environment settings)
Then I increased the RGB multiplier to 50 (for experimenting), but it rendered exactly the same
then I tried 0.4545 (still renders the same)

Then I switch off my vray camera's exposure, and it worked fine in both Next CPU and Next GPU. Great, issue sorted! (works with either just normal white swatch or white in vraycolor)
Would be great if we can make it work with exposure on

Also, if we can get VRayToon to work with GPU, that would be awesome!
          Kind Regards,
          Morne

Sorry what does it mean to switch off camera exposure?

It still doesnt work proprly however, because now you get terrible AA issues against the background. They really MUST fix this issue urgently

even maxes background is not supported. If i set a texture in the viewport background, nothing renders. I cant plug the tex in the environment otherwise i would get reflextions all over the place so unless i use plane in the background i am pretty much screwed. I really need to be able to get exact color for the background. Mind you this happens not only in GPU but also in CPU NEXT.

I can comment on the "affect background" option - it works with the bucket sampler. Both for CPU and GPU (later, when it is publicly available, currently only in the nightlies).
