Export Frame Bufffer to Open EXR

I was setting up to do Render Passes and Export via Open EXR per the tutorial here: http://www.cgsource.net/render-passes--compositing.html
But at the end of the render, 3ds Max always crashes with this error message, "an exception occurred while rendering with 3ds max".

Any suggestions? or a better way to post into AF.

I tried to reproduce your issue using the scene from the tutorial and following the steps, but here it works as expected. Would it be possible to send us the scene for investigation to support@chaosgroup.com.
