V-Ray scene Converter

How long is too long to wait. I try to use it right before I am done and ready to render, but waiting over an hour on a mid-sized project, is a little unrealistic. If I don't have more than an hour to wait I end up killing MAX, like I am doing right now, so what is the point. I like to think it might avoid problems at render time, but when the scene converter takes longer than the render, something is wrong.
