  • GPU crash and other things

    Hi,

Just installed Next and having some immediate issues in Max 2016 updated to sp4. Help is appreciated.

Render region brings up an unhandled exception allowing for abort render, so impossible to use.
Vray GPU also has an error error [vrayRTmax :: open] exception occurred in Open although it's recognised my card (GTX 980). If I try switching to any other panel after this then it's straight to desktop, no questions asked
Both these happen on an empty scene or with stuff in it. IPR seems fine, as does regular production side of things, so very odd.
Also Render mask renders the selected item much brighter than it should be, like the gamma is off or something, so again quite u
The lens filter dialogue box is too small for its contents and cannot be resized to see the export button properly....just the top is visible.

There is some weird stuff going on with auto-exposure/white balance but I'll post that when I've returned from replacing my just broken vape tank....which I now need due to all the stress

I'm more bothered about the first 3 things obviously

    Hello,

When you see the error message V-Ray should generate a crash dump called VRay.dmp in your temp folder (type %temp% in windows explorer address bar). Could you attach one here or send it to support.

For the Render mask issue - can you attach a simple scene showing the issue?
And for the lens filter dialog - could you attach a screen shot just to be sure it is what I think it is ?

    Sorry for the inconveniences.

    Best regards,

Sorry for the delayed response. Problems.

Anyway I upgraded to Max 2019 (gulp) and now the main things are working correctly.
I've attached a screen of the dialogue box and a pic clearly showing the mask issue. The bright cupboard should be the same grey as those next to it and the granite should be
black as the rest is. Very odd.
I'm trying to get things done right now so will up a scene when I get a moment later or tomorrow. Unless of course you realise what it is without me needing to
Materials are very standard vray ones.

I tried to attach a max file but not permitted it seems. I will send it to support@.
Simple as it gets....simply select teapot of choice as the mask and it will magically change colour!

          Hello,

Regarding the Lens filter dialog. Could you provide us information about the resolution of your monitor and also, if you are using any windows scaling.
Its hard to tell without looking at the scene. If it's possible, could you send the scene to support@chaosgroup.com. Please mention this thread.

          Best Regards,

Good call! It was indeed because I have windows 7 and the scaling is crap. It's the filter generator tool, so nothing to do with Max.

I'd love it if you were to magically suggest a way for me to not go blind trying to focus on this bloody enormous monitor with tiny text, but I guess that's unlikely
I'll have to put up with stuff being out of reach a bit, as long I can work more comfortably.

            Thanks.

True but better if it was permanent. Or maybe I will invest in..

Meanwhile any result with the render mask issue?
