  • Vray Clipper ghosting when excluding objects

    I am using Vray clipper to create a section through a building and this works well BUT if i add objects to the exclude list then I start seeing ghosting of other geometry. Any ideas?
    I have attached before and after exclude example as well as the dialog capture.

    Vray 3.6.05
    3dsMax2019.3
    No other plugins used in this scene

    Do you have more than one VRayClipper in the scene. It will be helpful, if you can send us the scene for investigation to support@chaosgroup.com. Please mention this thread.

      Hi There,

      We did have 2 Vray clippers in the scene however the problem persists even after we delete the second clipper.

      I have forwarded the scene to support

        BTW The issue becomes a little less visible if GI is turned off but still there

          Have you tried raising the max transparency levels in Vray Render Settings under Global Switches.

            Hi Ashley... that worked, raised the transparency levels to 200 and now it is clean again. Thank you!

              Hello,

              Indeed the transparency explains the issue - there is a minor optimization in the VRayClipper when there are no excluded geometries that allows to skip intersections above the clipper plane and also doesn't need high transparency levels. When there are excluded geometries we have to do all the intersections and in some scenes that can cause reaching the max transparency level.

                I had the same issue with a meshed particle system and planar clipper. Setting the value to 200 solved the issue. If it was less than that, the behavior was visible. it was reduced when value was above 100 and completely gone with value of 200.
