  • Not visible to camera + vraydisplacement

    Hello,

While trying out this nifty tip from Jiri.Matys, I notice what I think is a bug.
Two items had vraydisplacement mod and were set to be "not visible to camera."
Upon rendering those 2 objects appeared as pure black and the displacement seemed to be working.
So I turn displacement mods off and re-render and they behave as expected.
    I can get a screenshot if needed.thanks!

    Is your environment black?
If it was that easy, it would have already been done

Yes, and there is one domelight (set as visible)

Can you try raising the max transparency levels? (Render Setup / V-Ray / Global Switches)

Why use hide to camera and not camera clipping?
          A.

it is to do with the transparency levels - by displacing the object and looking through it side on youre now ignoring 50+ layers of geometry instead of 2 ish.

Thank you slizer, I raised it gradually and around 200, the objects were completely hidden.
              Really appreciate the help.

ashley, As for why? I was trying a technique posted by Jiri, and I liked how it worked. Sometimes I will use clipping, too. Thank you.

Have you found any advantage above camera clipping?

just that sometimes it will work fine, other times Jiri's method works better...depending on the camera and geometry every time.
