    Vray Color Map Default Problem

    Today, 03:35 PM
    Hi, this is my vray color map default in 3ds max 2017 sp3 - vray next 1.2... R 186 G 186 B 186 ---> R 0.5 G 0.5 B 0.5
    in 3ds max 2020 this color is R 128 G 128 B 128 --> R 0.5 G 0.5 B 0.5
    Why does it change the values?
    Thanks in advance

    ops...sorry..
    I made a mistake, I used wrong forum section..can you change my post, the section is "V-Ray for 3ds Max :: Problems"

    Most likely a visual bug; try rendering the map and see the pixel values. RGB (float) 0,5 0,5 0,5 should correspond to RGB (8bit) 128 128 128.

      thank's Aleksandar!!!
      When i set 128 128 128 I get R 0.2195 G 0.2195 B 0.2195
      I don't think it's a visualization only issue, probably something more I can't figure out

        What are the Max gamma settings?

            that looks like a bug to me, i've only ever experienced the behaviour like that in 2017.

              The strange thing is that in 3ds max 2020 when I open a scene done with Max 2017, I import or I only open the library of materials that I created with the previos versions, the Vray Color map changes suddenly and from 128-128-128 --> 0,5 0,5 0,5 goes to 186-186-186 --> 0,22 0,22 0,22
              Is that any solution to solve the problem?
              I'm sorry for my english

                Could you send this material library/scene to support@chaosgroup.com, so we can further investigate?

                  Yeah, send the scene over to support. It could be a bug, or something related to max 2020's color spaces' setup.
                  Support will figure it out, they're that good.

                      Thank you for the provided files.

                      It seems that the VRayColor map in your scene had a gamma correction applied to it, which produced the differences in RGB values.

                      The gamma correction parameters are currently hidden from the UI and are accessible only through MaxScript. The particular map possibly came from a previous version of V-Ray, where these settings were available in the UI.

                      To return the value to its defaults, type these lines in the MaxScript listener:
                      m=VRayColor()
                      m.gamma_correction=0
