  • VRayClipper + VRayDisplacementModifier = nasty render artifacts

For some reason we seem to have a lot of render artifacts with the vrayclipper.
at first the issues wre mostly noticable with iToo forest. It would clip forest, but still show some faces of it.

But it's ALSO giving artifects when using displacement.

I have this image with is a section render of a house using a customclipper object (besides the point because it happens with a standar clipper plane as well)
you can clearly see some artifacts allover the place.

    I have a maxfile https://we.tl/t-cmMknWzVF9 if needed ...

this is basically making the vrayClipper useless for us.
(the fact that it doesn't clip iToo forest properly doesn;'t help, but I am willing to consede that that might be an itoo issue instead of chaos group)

I hope we can solve this.

    Hello,

Thanks for the scene. I'll check it and write back. There are a few holidays this week and the office will be closed so it will take a few more days - sorry about that.
Also - can you send me a problem scene with Forest pack - most probably it is something on our side and not iToo.

    Best regards,
    Yavor

Did you raise the Max transparency levels in the settings?

Edit: doesn't seem to affect much for your example, you do have a hole in your clipping geometry but fixing it doesn't help the result (I've tried a few settings in your displacement mod but no succes either.) For ForestPack raising transparency might help though.

Max transparency doens't do anything for forest either.
The funny thing is that the artifacts are coming from parts that are not even clipped through.
They are entirely beyond the clipping plane, meaning they should be clipped off entirely.
@yavor.rubenov, this might be a clue right here btw.

As a heads up, it does appear to have something to do with domelights being visible.
If I set the domelight (a vraylight set to dome) to invisible, it appears as if the artifacts are gone, for both the displacement issue and the forest issue.
Just take that into account when looking into it.

You can directly send it to our support if the scene is not big or you can just message them and they can send you a location to upload the file. (the email address is support@chaosgroup.com)

              Hi Yavor,

I sent a wetransfer to support, because the FTP thing wasn't working out for me.
They said they forwarded it to you, so checking to see if there's any progress.
So this is me, just checking back in to see if there's any progress.

Sorry for the delayed replied - yes I got the scene and there's a fix for both issues coming soon. How urgent is it ?

not superurgent that we'd need a patch/nightlly build right away, but urgent enough that it depends on when an official update is coming.
is that soonish or half a year away ? We do quite a lot of section renders so a proper fix is always helpfull

If by the end of H1 is soonish to you - then yes
If it was that easy, it would have already been done

Yes. It might be out even earlier than that.

Just wondering if this ever made it in, since we're still seeing it, at this moment with clipped iToo forest objects (a forestobject of hedges)
