  • Vray Next Adaptive Dome feature

    Hello!

I've got a problem with the new feature "Adaptive Dome" in Vray Next. I have a simple interior with a VrayDome and I have rendered it twice, one with the "Adaptive Dome" feature switched OFF, and the other one switched ON. Rendering time is the same in both, so I think I may have a configuration problem but I don't have any idea where.

    Thanks for the help

    - VRAY NEXT Update 1.2
    - Light cache secondary engine
    - Brute force Primary
    - Bucket mode
    - Intel core I7 7820X 3.6
    - 3DMax 2019
    - Windows 10

Could you send this scene to support@chaosgroup.com so we can analyze it thoroughly?

Aleksandar, would you be kind and send me the scene as well? I'm quite curious as to what may be the source of this myself. :P

edit: it's also, i realise now, in the wrong problem section eheh.

Thank you for the provided scene.

The reason for the lack of render time improvement in your scene is the light sampling method (from the Global Switches rollout). When modes other than 'Adaptive Lights' are active, the 'Adaptive Dome' will not work, regardless of the checkbox status. There will be a warning message stating that in future releases.

So, in order for the dome's adaptiveness to function, you would need to activate the 'Adaptive Lights'.

Maybe dim-out the adaptive dome light option if unsupported GI engine / sampling mode is used ?

                  Ok, perfect, now runs perfectly. I suppose if i activate the Adaptive Lights i need use always LightCache method for Secondary engine;

but We have a problem in our pipeline. Normally for our scenes we use a BOX CAMERA and in this case not runs correctly. If possible resolve this problem?

                  Thanks for your help

                  Regards

                    Correct. Until SP2, at least.

I can see nothing there, would you be able to point me at the issue?

I think the issue is the rendertime. It's near the same ON or OFF

                        Oh, i see.
But because it's a cubic camera, he ends up sampling pretty much the whole dome anyway (as the camera sees the whole interior).
I'm not sure that's a problem with the technology, but i may be wrong.

The problem happens when we use a BOX camera method, the render time is the same with adaptive on or off. In Box camera i have other problems, for example the caustic not appears, i reported this problems in others Posts, i need to check them if are resolved in VrayNext version.

I have tested with a recent nightly of V-Ray next, and the box camera works fine with the adaptive dome (around 50% speedup).
The same is valid for Photon-Mapped caustics.

wow, MAYBE i´m doing a bad step, but i don´t know the problem, because i´ve used the same scene only changes the camera box type. I´m going to check a different values etc.

                              Thanks for your help.
