  • Material editor not showing Std Mats correctly

    MAX2020, VRay NEXT Update 1.2.

    The material editor (whether standard or slate view) does not show Standard materials correctly - no bump, no highlights.

    In the Render Dialogue/Assign Renderer, the Material Editor and Production render are locked to VRay Next, update 1.2.. If I switch Material Editor to use Scanline, the Std mats show correctly, but no VRay materials are visible. This worked just fine in previous versions...any ideas?

    Hi,

    There are changes in the latest V-Ray versions related to the Standard Max material support and features like Specular level / Glossiness are not working anymore. It's best to use the V-Ray Mtl instead. We will add a warning about this in the V-Ray log!

      There goes the answer. While conversions seem to be the only way, this isn't very ideal. Remember some of us still work with old files. I can understand if its a third party Material, but standard mats? Cmon!

        how messy would it be to add a pop-up warning or a suggestion to convert materials when loading old scenes? While it is a good habit to read the logs, most of us in the studio simply work on workstations some other guy maintains, when faced with something new like these, we'll normally waste a few good minutes trying to figure out what's wrong.. A pop-up takes away those wasted moments. sochino hou ga yasashii
